Birdville ISD in North Richland Hills, TX was experiencing problems with their existing air conditioning system. The four high percentage packaged rooftop units that serviced the school were unable to direct enough airflow into the campus’s glass-enclosed atrium, causing the heat to be extreme in the Texas summers. HTS was selected as the basis of design to provide a solution that would keep the space comfortable for students and faculty year-round.
The building was provided with four Dynamic 2-inch panels, which were fitted and installed into the existing RTUs. This Dynamic air cleaning system reduced the outside air requirements and allowed 10 tons of cooling to be redirected to recirculating air in the atrium, rather than treating outside air. HTS provided a cost-effective solution by increasing the tonnage in the atrium space without increasing the total tonnage on the HVAC system. This creative solution helped the school avoid installing more RTUs, which would have required additional space, time, and resources.
