When Mac Haik Enterprises set out to build a 17-story, class A office space, they wanted to create a facility that was both energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly.
HTS Texas partnered up with DBR Engineering and TD Industries to supply a HVAC system that would allow the owner of this 448,000 square foot facility, located on I-10 near Beltway 8, to stay within budget while seeking a LEED® certified rating.
The final design consisted of 17 Daikin packaged self-contained units (model SWP) totaling 1,200 Tons. These units were an ideal solution since the refrigerant (407c) measured 1.1lbs/ton, which is significantly less than the 2.3 lbs/ton maximum LEED® requirements. Typically seen in multi-story facilities, Daikin’s SWP units are quieter than alternative systems and can also lower construction and operating costs.
